Teachers’ Professional Development Programme on Inclusive Education
The Department of Extension Services of Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Education (Autonomous), Coimbatore, organised a two-day Teachers’ Professional Development Programme on Inclusive Education on 28th and 29th November 2025. A total of 38 female teaching faculty members from Ganga College of Nursing, Coimbatore, participated in the programme. The event aimed to enhance teachers’ understanding of inclusive education, disabilities, classroom adaptations, ethics and inclusive physical activities.
The programme commenced on 28.11.2025 (Friday) with a prayer at 9.40 a.m. The first session titled “Swami Vivekananda’s views on the Role of a Teacher” was delivered by Swami Bhaktivratananda, highlighting the spiritual and moral responsibilities of teachers. This was followed by two technical sessions handled by the faculty members namely Dr. S. Parween (FDMSE, RKMVERI) and Dr. Saumya Chandra (FDMSE, RKMVERI), who provided comprehensive overviews of sensory and developmental disabilities and explained curricular and classroom adaptations to support diverse learners. In the afternoon, participants visited the Indian Cultural Heritage & History of Indian Freedom Struggle Exhibition, which offered valuable insights into India’s rich traditions. Later, an Orientation on Special Education was conducted during the FDMSE campus visit. The day concluded with a visit to the Bhagavan Ramakrishna Temple and Vidyalaya campus, reinforcing the institution’s values-based educational atmosphere.
The second day, 29.11.2025 (Saturday), began with a prayer, followed by an inspiring session on “Ethics from the Ramayana and Mahabharata” led by Swami Narayanananda, who emphasised the relevance of Indian epics in shaping educators’ ethical perspectives. Subsequently, Dr. R. Giridharan Head, RKMVERI – GAPEY, conducted a session on Inclusive Physical Activity Programme: Planning and Implementation, providing practical strategies for integrating physical activities for all learners. Dr. D. Yuvaraj, Assistant Professor, RKMVERI – GAPEY, handled the next session on Inclusive Sports and Games, highlighting methods to modify sports to ensure participation of students with varied abilities.
In the afternoon, participants attended an Orientation on Adapted Sports during their visit to GAPEY, which offered hands-on exposure to inclusive sports implementation.
The programme concluded with a Valedictory and Feedback Session, during which participants expressed appreciation for the well-structured sessions, knowledgeable resource persons, and the practical exposure provided. Overall, the two-day programme enriched the participants’ understanding of inclusive education and equipped them with strategies to create an inclusive learning environment in their respective institution.
